What we do

WBHI answers the breast cancer and heart disease wellness needs of the community with innovative programs that make an impact.

The WORKPLACE WELLNESS PROGRAM launched in late 2020 as a direct response to the pandemic temporarily suspending our signature door-to-door campaign. Service delivery was reimagined and now, instead of bringing mobile mammography vans, clinicians and trained, multilingual volunteers to residential neighborhoods to provide care, we’re pitching our prevention and wellness tents at businesses across South Florida to serve those same under-resourced audiences. On-site breast cancer, hypertension, glucose and cholesterol screenings are provided; requisite care is coordinated; and breast and heart health education packages are shared.

Our VIRTUAL ADVOCATE PROGRAM, created for College Students in 2020 expressly to foster the next generation of multidisciplinary leaders, reflects our commitment to changing the trajectory of health through prevention and wellness education. Its unique digital curriculum – which is embedded into existing syllabi and can be used for service learning and community service hours – encourages students to share what they’ve learned through peer-to-peer social media engagement, and its execution is currently facilitated by our partnership with a host of colleges and universities. More than 4,400 students have completed and been certified in the program – an investment in our collective future that’s serving thousands of people today.

COLLEGE CAMPUS CLUBS provide an invaluable platform for civic engagement, serving as an effective agent of peer-led health promotion, social learning and is a multidisciplinary educational tool. Skills gained – including public speaking, critical thinking, team building and social media engagement – further organizational goals while bolstering the success and achievement of participants across a wide variety of professional fields.

The PREVENTIVE SCREENING PROGRAM offers an ongoing continuum of care that encompasses disease prevention and early detection. WBHI participants screened in previous years receive breast and heart screenings through our network of collaborating hospitals and medical partners, with care coordination and patient navigation provided for requisite care.

Our legacy DOOR-TO-DOOR OUTREACH PROGRAM is the campaign that galvanized the community, reaching 11,000 new households each year. Its success gifted us with the foundation we needed to create the Workplace Wellness and Virtual Advocate programs to provide cross generational disease prevention and early detection resources, thereby continuing to foster a better today and brighter tomorrow.
